Dream Team edge Denmark to hit Rio semi final

Dream Team VI are through to the semi-finals of the Rio Olympics after two goals downed their European opponents, Denmark yesterday.

John Obi Mikel and Aminu Umar strikes sent Nigeria into the last four at the expense of the Danish, as Samson Siasia’s side ran out deserved 2-0 winners in Salvador.

The Nigerian team started the game on a very positive note with Imoh Ezekiel the tormentor in chief of the Danish defence but the Africans had to wait until the 15th minute before taking the lead after some fine work by Ezekiel who drilled in a cross into the 18-yard area for Mikel to score past goalkeeper Hojbjerg.

Umar doubled Nigeria’s lead in the second half after Mikel’s corner found him unmarked in the box and he was able to direct his header on target to cement Nigeria’s dominance and secure their passage to the next round where they will face Germany on Wednesday by 8pm Nigerian time.

Meanwhile, the team have now received their camp allowances for 22 days according to reports emanating from the minister of Sports Solomon Dalung’s camp.

“The sports ministry has cleared all camp allowances of the Dream team in Rio, players and officials have now been paid 22 days allowances,” eam spokesman Timi Ebikagboro also said.

This means each player has now received $3,300 with coach Siasia getting double that amount for the days spent so far.
