Monguno, Shinkafi: Nigeria has lost honest voices – OBJ

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday condoled former President Shehu Shagari, Sultan of Sokoto and Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal over the death of late Umaru Shinkafi.

Describing the deceased as a committed nationalist who worked tirelessly for the unity and development of the country, Obasanjo said Shinkafi’s death, and that of Maiduguri-based elder statesman, Shattima Ali Monguno, have robbed the country of honest voices who still had a lot to offer the nation.

He said although people cannot question the work of God, present leaders should emulate both Shinkafi and Monguno in their dealings with other Nigerians.

Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal thanked Obasanjo for the visit, and prayed God to reward him accordingly.
On his part, Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad commended Obasanjo for his gesture of friendship, adding that Shinkafi lived a worthy life of service to his country.

And in Maiduguri, Obasanjo described late Shettima Ali Monguno as epitome of gentility who lives his life for his family, people and country.

Chief Obasanjo who was received by Governor Kashim Shettima at the Maiduguri International Airport at the weekend, condole the Shehu of Borno and the deceased’s family over the death of the late Minister of Petroleum, Shettima Ali Monguno.

Obasanjo said, of Monguno, “He was neither parochial nor nepotistic, our consolation is that he lived his life for his family, his people and his country and our prayer is may his gentle soul be with Allah.”
Governor Kashim Shettima thanked the former president for coming to condole the family and the people of the Borno.
